5 Step Process To Saying Yes

Why You Shouldn’t Say Yes To Everything

Sometimes saying yes to someone else means you are saying no to yourself. Saying yes to everything can get overwhelming and get you off track to where you need to go. When you try to be everywhere you actually end up nowhere, like the saying goes, “You can’t hit two targets with one arrow.” This year I’ve made a cautious effort of creating a process before I say yes. No more just blindly saying yes and making myself available to anything and everything without understanding how it will provide me value but also how I will provide who’s reaching out to me value. Sometimes you are actually hurting who may be wanting your time because you are unavailable or not able to provide your full 100%. This has been quite the adjustment for me, I’m someone that likes to say yes and figure it all out later but now that I’ve made an effort to build out my systems, I can say yes to things more efficiently and actually provide way more value than I was before.

HERE IS MY 5 STEP PROCESS TO SAYING YES:

Will I Enjoy It?

Will I be happy by doing this? Will it bring me excitement? Am I dreading having to do what I agreed to do or am I looking forward to what I chose to partake in?

Does It Pay My Fee?

Your time is of value. Not to say that you shouldn’t do things for free, but you shouldn’t do everything for free. I had the hardest time charging people for my services because I loved connecting and helping people but at some point in order to really have people take your work serious, you have to charge. With that being said, does saying yes pay your fee whatever that fee may be? Obviously depending on what it is, it can be negotiated but that falls on you.

Does This Put Me In Front Of A Larger Audience?

Will this opportunity put me in front a larger demographic to increase my presence to more people.

Does It Elevate My Profile?

How will this opportunity or saying yes help me level up? Some opportunities give you the opportunity to increase your profile and you don’t worry about details just the opportunity to get the chance to elevate.

Is It Something New Or Different That I Haven’t Done Before?

Will saying yes expose me to something I’m not familiar with and in the process teach me something I may not have known before. This opportunity could potentially help me grow by giving me a chance to explore something new.
